The “Fukuro-Matsuri”: 4 Days Filled with Splendor and Power

The “Fukuro-Matsuri” is a festival held in the town of Ikebukuro.
On September 23rd, many omikoshis will make their appearance in the event site of Ikebukuro!

“Omikoshi” are symbolic shrine-like “vehicles” for the gods that are adorned with gorgeous ornaments. Driven on by the joyous calls of spectators and the powerful shouts of their many bearers, the omikoshi, shining brilliantly in gold, will be paraded through the town. There will even be special “international exchange” omikoshi that can be carried by foreigners!

On October 6 and 7, the Fukuro-Matsuri will feature “Tokyo Yosakoi” dances.

Dancers wearing brightly-colored costumes will perform lively dances in rhythm with festive music. Feel the energy of these performers as they bring out a sense of togetherness that will draw you in and make you want to join the dances before you know it.
