“Bon dance” is the Japanese summer tradition taken place nation-wide.
Among many others, “Awa dance”, one of three major bon dances in Japan, has constantly been performed across Japan. “Otsuka Awa dance” is the combination of supple and elegant female dance, and wild and powerful male movements, which leads to spectacular performance.
Each participating dance team is called “Ren”. In colorful uniform, the teams dance in line to compete the skill they have honed through practice over the year. Find your favorite team with its own dance method.
The dance continues after the sunset and near the viewing stand, full of stalls offer delicious takeaway! Explore traditional Japanese summertime in Otsuka.
